                           PALCON - 2010

WHAT IS PALCON?

In the summer of 2010 the Pastors and Leaders Conference will be celebrated on nine Nazarene college and university campuses across the United States and Canada. The gathering is designed for clergy, both assigned and unassigned, serving on the front lines of ministry. All deacons and elders are invited to attend along with district licensed ministers. Senior pastors, chaplains, evangelists, staff ministers and missionaries on furlough are welcome. We are inviting those who are retired as well as those who are students.

When you register for PALCON, you will be invited to exchange ideas with workshop presenters and speakers. You will be able to shape the event – before the event begins.

There will be prayer emphasis on each region. Every district will be involved and all clergy will be able to network with colleagues and discover best practices on the region. Through PALCON we will celebrate community, delight in our diversity, and become equipped through a vast array of resources.

It is our vision to participate in a fresh move of God upon the Church of the Nazarene in the United States and Canada. We minister in days with a unique opportunity to impact our world. This event has tremendous potential to shape and mold us more clearly into the people and church God envisions.

Spanish translation is available for all plenary sessions.

BIVOCATIONAL DAY

NEW!

The challenges and pressures upon Nazarene clergy are tremendous these days – especially for those serving in a bivocational role. The PALCON steering committee recommended that the second day of each conference be adjusted to fit the schedule of a bivocational clergy leader who could only attend for one day. Therefore, we have reshaped and adjusted the schedule to honor and value those who serve in a bivocational assignment.

Ideally, we want all clergy to experience the entire conference! While this one day is set aside for bivocational pastors, all are welcome to attend the entire event.

For the bivocational leader who can attend the second day of PALCON, the cost is only $49. This includes all meals on the second day and all PALCON materials but no overnight accommodations at the university/college.

The special $49 pricing is to assist bivocational brothers and sisters who can drive in for the second day of the conference. This cost cannot be adjusted to accommodate overnight stays or extra meals not covered in the registration fee.

The special pricing is intended to assist our bivocational brothers and sisters who can commute or drive in for the second day of the conference. For additional information please email or call the PALCON office: PALCON2010@nazarene.org or (866) 658-9951.

Those who register for the bivocational day will receive:

  • All meals for one day
  • All conference materials
  • Choice of one complimentary CD

* Bivocational day will not be available at Ambrose University College.

Priceless

Prayer
In 2004, we learned that prayer is a key component to a significant conference. On each of our campuses there will be a prayer coordinator and emphasis. Join us in prayer now for a refreshing wind of the Spirit among our clergy.

Counseling
Counseling services will be provided by each region. Each campus will determine the procedures for clergy to access counselors and the appointment structure for meeting with counselors. There will be no fees for this professional service. The intent in offering it is to provide a safe and open place for clergy to seek professional care and counsel.

Nazarene Publishing House
The Nazarene Publishing House will be at each PALCON to bring resources that will enhance each minister’s library. These resource tools will have additional discounts for each registrant.

Cornerstone
Cornerstone Audio/Visual will attend all US events and will record every session and workshop. Every registrant will receive one audio CD as a complimentary gift from Clergy Development. All other workshops will be available for purchase. Purchases can also be made from PALCONs held on other regions.

Campus Housing
Nothing creates community like cozy campus dorms! If you want to select your own roommate prior to the event – that can be done through our registration program.

Exhibits
One of the ways to offer resources to clergy is through an exhibit area. There will be an opportunity to network with professionals who can assist with the multiple resources.

Networking
As we unpack what we learn during and after the conference, we are anticipating ongoing dialogue and a sense of community with our sisters and brothers who serve our regions.

PALCON Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  Can I bring my spouse?
A.  PALCON is conference designed for clergy. Due to limited housing on most campuses, only ministers whose mates are also clergy are eligible to attend PALCON. (Point Loma Region is the exception. PLNU region has invited all clergy and spouses to attend.)

Q. Is it possible for me to attend a PALCON on a different region?
A. Yes. We certainly want to encourage the partnerships and networking of each educational region, but you may attend the PALCON of your choice.

Q. Are there any discounts available?
A. Clergy Development is not offering discounts.

Q. If there is more than one minister attending from our church can our office administrator register all of us with one payment?
A. Yes. A group registration is available. Each person will need to have his/her own email address to register. The registration program will provide instructions after the first minster has registered.

Q.  I am not bivocational. Can I sign up for one day?
A. The bivocational day experience is designed to support those who can only attend due to secular employment. It is our hope that a most clergy will attend the entire conference.

Q. I will not utilize campus housing. Will there be an adjustment in the registration fee?
A. The registration fee cannot be adjusted. Those who register for PALCON are free to select off campus housing at their own expense.

Q. Is this a “Nazarene only” event?
A. This year the USA/Canada Region has opened up registration to the Churches of Christ in Christian Union. Feel free to invite other clergy to join you.

Q. When is the registration deadline?
A. In order to provide the highest quality of services of meals and amenities registration deadlines are two weeks prior to each PALCON.

Q. What happened to make this PALCON so affordable?
A. In 2004 the registration for the 4-day conference was $355. In 2010, the national steering committee recommended a 3-day conference. Clergy Development has underwritten a large portion of the expenses so that each participant can experience an affordable and meaningful conference for $179.

Q. Who were the leaders who shaped PALCON 2010?
A. A steering committee shaped and guided the approach to the 2010 emphasis.

Each region selected one pastor, one district superintendent and one university representative. Included in the discussion were representatives from the Nazarene Bible College, Nazarene Theological Seminary, and one university president.

The 3 representatives from each region gave leadership to each regional PALCON. As a result, each event is different and has been shaped by the regions.

Q. Can I pay by check?
A. Yes. Please call the PALCON office to make arrangements to pay by check.

Q. What is the cancellation policy?

A. Clergy may receive a 100% refund of their registration fee by cancelling no later than one week (7 days) prior to the event start date. If cancellation is necessary, this can be done online by selecting the “Unregister” key located in the banner of “My Registration”.

A partial “25% Refund” is available 1-6 days prior to the event.
Explanation: Due to contractual agreements with conference services all meals and lodging expenses must be paid by the PALCON office to each university/college. PALCON must guarantee the “number of persons” based upon registrations 7 days prior to the conference. If cancellation is necessary during this window of time (1-6 days prior to start date of each event), please email or call the PALCON 2010 office.

There can be no refunds after each PALCON event begins. Be sure to call the PALCON office if you have any questions.

Q. I will not be able to attend this PALCON. When will the next one be held?
